The Western State College of Colorado (WSC) Active Minds student group is hosting a Healthy Connections Workshop on April 20 and 21 at the Aspinall-Wilson Center. Amy Hartman, of Aspen Point in Colorado Springs, will deliver the keynote presentation, “Healthy Relationships,” at 3 p.m. on Friday, April 20. Hartman, who is trained in Choice Theory Reality Therapy, will discuss characteristics of healthy relationships, as well as how to achieve and maintain them. Following Hartman’s presentation will be a discussion on healthy sexual relationships facilitated by Suzy Coykendall, WSC professor of psychology, and Laura McLoughlin, family planning nurse with Gunnison County Public Health. Saturday features six health-related workshops from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. and ends with a public forum, “Birthing Options and Post-natal Care with Emphasis on Vaccinations.” Panelists include: Gunnison doctors Timothy Bonney and Lauretta Garren; Carol Kennedy, chief nursing officer at Gunnison Valley Health; Cinda Caddy Ewing, public health nurse consultant with the Colorado Department of Public Health and Environment; and Marlene Bergman, certified professional midwife and registered midwife. Admission to the event is one non-perishable food item and a $10 recommended donation. This event is co-sponsored by the WSC Sex Positive Club and WSC Politics and Government Program.
